Are you obsessed with Harry Potter, or simply amazed by the magic world? Then popyour sorting hats on and make your way to the wizard world centre, the city ofEdinburgh. From The Department of Magic’s mystical cocktails (or mocktails), to the Museum Context’s magical merchandise, the city of Edinburgh is the one andonly place for an aspiring wizard.
Whether you visit with children, your partner, or friends The Bruntsfield Hotelaccommodates you with the comfiest of rooms for the night, so you can discoverthe city in the morning.
THE DEPARTMENTOF MAGIC
The Department of Magic, located just off Hunters’ Square, teaches you the potion making skills every wizard needs to acquire. Once you enter the magical place, you and your family can enjoy mystical, bubbly mocktails and cocktails, butter beers, and chocolate frogs (of course, if you manage to catch them!). Last but not least, the Department of Magic also provides an unforgettable escape room experience.
MUSEUM CONTEXT
The Museum Context includes everything that a wizard might be in need of. From wands to broomsticks, and from owls to tarot cards, this shop has all that a Hogwarts student might require. Whether you want to top up your magic stock or you’d rather save that muggle money and just look around, the Museum Context should not be missed throughout your Edinburgh visit.
ELEPHANT HOUSE
Ifyou get a bit tired after having a few drinks at the Department of Magic and carrying your new broomstick, why not stop by the Elephant House for a quick pick-me-up? Why the Elephant House, you ask? Well, J. K. Rowling wrote the fabulous Harry Potter books while sipping on the teas of the Elephant House. While the café did move to Victoria Street from its original location, that does not take away from the possibility that you might be sitting at the same table as J. K. Rowling did a few years ago.
GREYFRIARS KIRKYARD
After you recharged at the Elephant House, the Greyfriars Kirkyard is worth a visit, with only a short walk away from Victoria Street. While you walk this beautiful graveyard, pay attention to the writing on the graves. After all, the legend says, the names of Voldemort, the Potter couple, and Mad Eye Moodie were inspired by the names of the passed ones in the graveyard.
HARRY POTTERBRIDGE (GLENFINNAN VIADUCT)
While the famous bridge leading to Hogwarts may not be in Edinburgh, it is definitely worth a visit if you have the chance. Whether you prefer to participate in an organised tour or visit on your own, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is a magical bridge in the Scottish Highlands that you do not want to miss. As part of this day out, you can either board the train and travel through the same bridge as the Hogwarts students do or you can admire the bridge from the ground. However, remember, the Hogwarts Express only runs seasonally so don’t forget to check onthat muggle website in advance.
