FRINGE FESTIVAL IN EDINBURGH: CELEBRATING ART WITH A BIT OF HUMOUR

The Edinburgh Fringe is here. Artists and performers from all four corners of the Globe come together to put on the "Greatest Show on Earth!"

In 1947, the rebellious attending of eight uninvited companies founded the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Now, every August, the festival hosts thousands of talented performers for an entire month. Whether you are visiting Edinburgh from somewhere else in Scotland or you are travelling from another country, The Bruntsfield Hotel looks forward to hosting you for the nights while you discover the events during the day.

The good news about the Fringe is that it doesn’t matter what your form of entertainment is, the different theme of events means that everyone can find something they like. Whether you are travelling with children or you just booked a weekend getaway with your partner or friends, the talented performers of the Fringe can guarantee your good time.

COMEDY

As comedy started the tradition of Fringe, comedians are still the pillar of the festival. Every day throughout the festival, you can see many independent comedians, such as Pete Carson, Simon Hall, and Amanda Dwyer, among many(many!) others. Due to the varying styles of the performers, along with the prices ranging from free to pay-what-you can to set prices, every visitor can find a show they’ll enjoy.

MAGIC

Do you enjoy a bit of magic? Are you intrigued by things you can’t explain? Then, the magical shows of the Fringe are for you! You can be enchanted by Cameron Young, the Scottish Magician, or by Sean Alexander with his One Moment in Time performance. Or, if you want to participate in the acts of magic, with a twistof crime drama, The ‘Mind-reading Lawyer’ mixes mentalism with courtroom drama.Watch out for your thoughts though!

THEATRE

Do you love the theatre? But lately theatre prices have gone sky-high? The Fringe provides the perfect opportunity to go to the theatre, while enjoying affordable prices. Throughout the month of August, you can visit several musical or non-musical theatrical performances, such as Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Legally Blonde, and so on. These shows can even be part of family time as it’s entertaining for older kids and adults alike!

MUSIC

Maybe you don’t normally have the opportunity to go to concerts. Or you simply enjoy music so much you can’t get enough of talented musicians. Luckily, Edinburgh Festival Fringe has talented performers in every genre! Whether you are a jazz-fan, modern pop, rock, or the orchestra, you will find so many events you won’t be able to make up your mind.

As the Fringe festival has a huge amount of talented artists, it is impossible to give justice to even a fraction of them. Luckily, the Fringe programme (that you can view online) lists every single bookable event. The festival has children’s shows, circus and dance performances, silent disco, visual art and many others besides the one already mentioned.

However, if you prefer to explore the city without booking any shows, you can still experience a bit of Fringe thanks to hundreds of buskers, street performers, caricature artists, face painters, and live statues.
